Is an 8x5 Single Axle trailer stable to tow?
Yes, if loaded correctly. Because the trailer is long (8ft) but only has one axle, you must ensure you don’t put too much weight at the very back (which causes sway). Load heavy items over the axle.
Why buy an 8x5 single instead of a tandem?
Weight and cost. An 8×5 single axle is lighter to tow and lighter to move by hand. It is perfect for moving large volume items that aren’t heavy, like mattresses, sofas, or green waste.
Can I carry 8ft plaster sheets in this trailer?
Yes! This is the main advantage. 8ft is approx 2400mm. Our 8×5 trailer fits standard building sheets flat on the floor with the tailgate closed, making it ideal for plasterers and carpenters.
Does it have brakes?
Standard models are unbraked (750kg ATM). However, we can fit mechanical brakes to an 8×5 single axle to increase the GVM to 1000kg or 1400kg if you need to carry heavier loads.
Is the chassis reinforced for the extra length?
Yes. We use a 70x50mm or 100x50mm drawbar (depending on spec) that extends back to the spring hangers to support the longer 8ft tray and prevent bowing.
Can I fit a cage to the 8x5?
Yes. An 8×5 with a 900mm cage offers a massive amount of cubic volume. It is the preferred choice for rubbish removalists who charge by the cubic meter.
How many tie-down points are there?
We include full-length tie-down rails on both sides and the rear. This gives you unlimited options for securing furniture and boards.
What is the tow ball weight?
Unloaded, the ball weight is light (around 40-50kg). When loading, aim to keep about 10% of the total weight on the tow ball for safe towing stability.
Are the lights protected?
Yes. The rear LED lights are recessed into the rear channel to protect them from being smashed when reversing into tight spots or loading docks.
Can I get ramps for this trailer?
Yes, but be careful with weight. While you can use ramps to load a ride-on mower, remember the single axle payload limit. For heavy machinery, a tandem is better.
